Doja Cat Hits Billboard Rock Charts for First Time With Hole Cover

Doja recorded the cover of Hole's "Celebrity Skin" for a Taco Bell ad that premiered during the Super Bowl.

Doja Cat appears on a Billboard rock chart for the first time thanks to her cover of Hole‘s “Celebrity Skin.”

The song debuts on multiple tallies dated Feb. 26, led by bows of Nos. 16 and 18 on the respective Hot Alternative Songs and Hot Rock & Alternative Songs surveys.

In the Feb. 11-17 tracking week, the update, released Feb. 11, drew 3 million U.S. streams and 69,000 radio airplay audience impressions and sold 600 downloads, according to MRC Data.

The track also begins at No. 21 on Alternative Digital Song Sales.

Since August 2019, Doja Cat has infused Billboard‘s pop and R&B/hip-pop and pop charts, tallying three top 10s, including one No. 1, “Say So,” featuring Nicki Minaj, on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100. She also boasts five No. 1s on Rhythmic Airplay and three on Pop Airplay.

Doja Cat recorded the cover of Hole’s 1990s alternative classic for a Taco Bell ad that premiered during the Super Bowl on Feb. 13.

Certain lyrics of the song were reworked to fit the commercial with help from the original’s co-writer, Hole frontwoman Courtney Love. The Smashing PumpkinsBilly Corgan and Hole’s Eric Erlandson co-wrote the song with Love and also receive writing credits on Doja Cat’s remake.

Hole’s rendition of “Celebrity Skin” is the band’s sole No. 1, among three top 10s and 10 overall entries, on the Alternative Airplay chart, where it led for four weeks beginning in October 1998.
