DJ Khaled Heading for His First No. 1 Album on Billboard 200 Chart

DJ Khaled is on course for his first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart with his latest release, Major Key. The set, which was released on July 29 through We the Best/Epic Records, may earn over 90,000 equivalent album units in the week ending Aug. 4, according to industry prognosticators. That could be enough to bump the chart’s current champ, Drake’s Views, out of the penthouse. (Views may tally 80,000-plus units.)
Further, Major Key could launch with perhaps 60,000 in traditional album sales — which would mark Khaled’s best sales week since 2007. That year, his We the Best album bowed with 79,000 copies sold in its first week (his best sales week ever).
The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week based on multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The top 10 of the new Aug. 20-dated Billboard 200 chart — where DJ Khaled may bow at No. 1 — is scheduled to be revealed on Billboard’s websites on Sunday, Aug. 7.
Major Key is exclusively available through the iTunes Store and Apple Music’s streaming service for its first week of release. However, individual singles from the album – like “For Free” and “I Got the Keys” – are available to purchase and stream from other retailers and services. Those song transactions from non-iTunes/Apple Music entities will factor into Major Key’s debut on the chart.
Major Key arrives to other digital retailers and streaming services on Aug. 5, and bows on physical CD on Aug. 12.

If Major Key debuts in the top 10 of the Billboard 200, it will land DJ Khaled his sixth top 10 album. He previously hit the region with Suffering From Success (No. 7 in 2013), Kiss the Ring (No. 4 in 2012), We the Best Forever (No. 5 in 2011), We Global (No. 7 in 2008) and We the Best (No. 8 in 2007). His last release, 2015’s I Changed a Lot, debuted and peaked at No. 12.
Other albums heading for high debuts on next week’s Billboard 200 include Jake Owen’s American Love, Fantasia’s The Definition Of… and Hillary Scott & The Scott Family’s Love Remains. Owen and Fantasia are looking to launch with around 30,000 units (or so) each, while Scott might start with 20,000.
