DJ Khaled Crowns Dance Club Songs for First Time With ‘Wild Thoughts’

The song is also Bryson Tiller's first topper, while Rihanna roars to her 31st.

DJ Khaled earns his first No. 1 on Billboard‘s Dance Club Songs chart (dated Aug. 26), as “Wild Thoughts,” featuring Rihanna and Bryson Tiller, rises 3-1. The song, at its No. 2 Billboard Hot 100 high for a fifth week, was remixed for clubs by Bee’s Knees, Dave Aude and Medasin, among others. The track is also Tiller’s first topper on the chart.

Meanwhile, “Wild” is Rihanna’s 31st Dance Club Songs No. 1, further entrenching her in second place in the race for the most leaders since the chart’s inception 41 years ago. Madonna leads with 46 No. 1s, while Beyonce holds third place with 22.

Rihanna earns her fourth No. 1 of 2017, the most of all acts, following “Pose” (July 15), “Sex With Me” (April 8) and “Love on the Brain” (Jan. 21). Below Rihanna, four acts boast two each this year: Dua Lipa, Tony Moran, Katy Perry and LeAnn Rimes.

Only four acts have tallied four Dance Club Songs No. 1s in a January-December span, with Rihanna in the lead, having now accomplished the feat five times (2007, 2010, 2011, 2016 and 2017). Lady Gaga (2009 and 2011), Beyonce (2009) and Katy Perry (2014) have also snared four No. 1s each in a January-December period.

Of note, “Wild” is only Rihanna’s fourth No. 1 on which she is not credited as the lead artist. The others: “This Is What You Came For” (by Calvin Harris; July 9, 2016), “Can’t Remember to Forget You” (Shakira; April 5, 2014) and “Who’s That Chick” (David Guetta; Feb. 12, 2011).

HEY, ‘MAMA’: Jonas Blue jumps 13-10 on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs with “Mama,” featuring William Singe. It’s the UK DJ/producer’s second top 10 (and singer Singe’s first), following “Fast Car” (No. 7, March 2016), featuring Dakota. “Mama” managed 5.5 million U.S. streams, up 31 percent, in the week ending Aug. 10, according to Nielsen Music, good for top Streaming Gainer honors. It sold 6,000 downloads, up 17 percent, and rises 12-10 on Dance/Electronic Digital Song Sales.

Also on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs, “Rich Love,” by OneRepublic with Seeb, rises seven spots to a new peak, 22-15. On sale for 69 cents in the iTunes Store, the track sold 12,000 downloads, up 894 percent, earning top Digital Gainer kudos. “Rich” re-enters at No. 5 on Dance/Electronic Digital Song Sales, doubling both its previous peak position and weekly sales total (No. 10, 6,000 sold, upon its Aug. 5 debut).

YOU JUST WANT IT: Charlie Puth pounces 11-2 on Dance/Mix Show Airplay with “Attention.” It’s the pop singer’s second top 10 and first as a lead act, following his featured turn on Wiz Khalifa’s “See You Again” (No. 3, 2015). Midtempo in its original form, “Attention” was remixed by Bingo Players, Oliver Heldens and PeteDown, among others. (The Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart reflects plays on a select panel of full-time dance radio stations and during mix show hours on more than 80 top 40 stations.)

Also on Dance/Mix Show Airplay, hip-hop act French Montana forays into the top 10 for first time with “Unforgettable,” featuring Swae Lee (12-7). The track, which was remixed by Major Lazer and Joe Maz, to name a couple, is the first top 10 for Lee.
