Discogs, the online database and marketplace for vinyl collectors, has announced that it will launch its first mobile app. Due in the first quarter of 2016, the official iOS and Android app will carry many of the same features as the website, which allows users to catalog their collections, check out market prices and add items to wish lists.
Users will be able to sync their existing Discogs accounts to the app, but as The Vinyl Factory notes, some of the core features of the site — contacting sellers and purchasing records — may not be be incorporated when it launches.
There are already mobile apps that use Discogs data to give collectors a way to manage their virtual collections on the go, the biggest being MilkCrate for iOS and Discollector for Android. Both of those leading apps include a barcode scanner feature for quick access to release data.
Launched in 2000, the Portland, Ore.-based site recently announced it has over 6 million releases and nearly 4 million artists in its database.
