The first iteration of Day Zero Masada happened in September 2019 during the Jewish New Year of Rosh Hashanah and was the first expansion of Lazarus’ Day Zero party that originated years ago in Tulum, Mexico. This second iteration of Day Zero Masada will take place September 9-10, 2021, and expands the event from one to two days.

As festivals slowly relaunch in the United States, largely in states like Florida and Texas where protocols are more relaxed, other countries are navigating how and when to safely reopen for such events. According to medical journal Health Affairs, 50 percent of Israel’s population is currently vaccinated against COVID-19.

“Day Zero will be in total compliance with all the local and national Israeli COVID protocols,” organizers of the event tell Billboard. “These are changing week by week as more and more people are vaccinated, we will provide updated guidelines for domestic and international attendees as we get closer to the event.”

Located on the shore of the Dead Sea, Masada is a UNESCO World Heritage site with a history dating back to 30 BC.
