David Cassidy’s Top 10 Songs on the Billboard Hot 100: ‘I Think I Love You,’ ‘Cherish’ & More
David Cassidy's top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 chart -- from The Partridge Family's No. 1 hit "I Think I Love You" to Cassidy's solo hits like "Cherish" and more.
The late David Cassidy — who died on Nov. 21 — made his Billboard chart debut in 1970 thanks to his role on ABC TV’s The Partridge Family. In the show, the family band — led by Cassidy’s real-life step-mother Shirley Jones — record the song “I Think I Love You,” which becomes a hit. In real life, the song — with lead vocals by Cassidy and backing vocals by Jones — also became a hit, sailing all the way to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. It topped the list for three weeks in late 1970, and ranks as Cassidy’s top Hot 100 hit of all time (see list, below).
The Partridge Family would prove to be so popular, the act notched a total of nine hits on the Hot 100, including seven top 40-charting hits. The Family also scored five consecutive top 40-charting albums on the Billboard 200, including a trio of top 10s. (It may come as a surprise to some, but Cassidy and Jones were the only actors from the TV show to sing on The Partridge Family records.)
Cassidy himself embarked on a solo career, concurrent with his success with his TV family, and claimed five hits on the Hot 100. Among them were his No. 9-peaking hit “Cherish” and his final Hot 100 chart entry, 1990’s No. 27-peaking “Lyin’ to Myself.”
