Dan + Shay and Justin Bieber’s “10,000 Hours” isn’t just part of one of the top crops of debuts on Billboard’s Streaming Songs chart in its history — it’s also the highest-charting non-holiday country song on the list ever.
“10,000 Hours” debuts at No. 3 on the Streaming Songs ranking dated Oct. 19, earning 33.3 million streams in the week ending Oct. 10, according to Nielsen Music. With that debut, it’s the best-charting non-holiday country song in the history of the tally, which began in January 2013.
It’s also just the third non-holiday country song to reach Streaming Songs’ top 10 and second to do so in 2019.
Previously, the highest-charting non-holiday country track on Streaming Songs? Florida Georgia Line’s “Cruise,” featuring Nelly. In addition to being a 33-week No. 1 on Country Streaming Songs, the pop crossover peaked at No. 9 on the Streaming Songs list dated June 22, 2013.
The only other non-holiday country song to reach the top 10 was Blanco Brown’s “The Git Up,” which peaked at No. 10 earlier this year (Aug. 10) amid its 15-week reign atop Country Streaming Songs that concluded with the debut of “10,000 Hours.”
When adding holiday songs, however, the distinction is a little less absolute; after all, many holiday standards in the U.S. are early country titles. In that case, “10,000 Hours” slots into a tie for the second-best-ranking country song in Streaming Songs’ history; Bobby Helms’ “Jingle Bell Rock” leads the way, having peaked at No. 2 in January, while Brenda Lee’s “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” also reached No. 3 that month. Burl Ives’ “A Holly Jolly Christmas” and Gene Autry’s “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” also join the top 10 party as a result of their Streaming Songs peaks earlier this year.
It’s the latest triumph on Streaming Songs for the genre, which has seen an increasing amount of titles make the 50-position chart in 2019 after being more of a novelty on the list in previous years. With “10,000 Hours,” eight non-holiday country titles have reached Streaming Songs this year, compared to just two in 2018. That’s the most in a single year, besting 2013, when seven country entries dotted the tally.
