Daddy Yankee’s “Con Calma,” featuring Snow, climbs 2-1 on Billboard’s Latin Pop Songs airplay chart (dated March 30) and now crowns three Latin airplay charts. It continues at No. 1 for a third week on both, the overall Latin Airplay chart and the Latin Rhythm Airplay tally.
On Latin Pop Songs, the track rises to the top with a 13 percent jolt in plays in the week ending March 24, according to Nielsen Music, earning Daddy Yankee his fifth No. 1 and Snow his first.
“We continue to open the way for culture with another No. 1 in Spanish, not only in U.S. but worldwide,” Daddy Yankee tells Billboard about the global hit. “[I have] great respect for Snow and [co-producers] Play-N-Skillz, as well as for Chapkis Dance, who also captivated with their dance in the music video [directed by Marlon Peña],” he adds.
The song reworks Snow’s “Informer,” which ruled the Billboard Hot 100 for seven weeks in 1993.
Says Snow, “Daddy Yankee together with Play-N-Skillz have embraced me and ‘Informer,’ taking ‘Con Calma’ to the top of the Latin charts and now reaching people all over the world proving that music knows no language. DKO!”
The tune is the third title in 2019 to top the Latin Airplay, Latin Rhythm Airplay and Latin Pop Songs airplay lists: Bad Bunny and Drake first clocked such a triple with “Mia,” featuring Drake followed by Karol G and Maluma’s “Créeme.”
Notably, out of Daddy Yankee’s five Latin Pop Songs leaders, a sum which began with “Lovumba (Prestige)” in 2012, three have reigned in the last three consecutive years, as “Despacito” with Luis Fonsi and featuring Justin Bieber, secured a spot in the penthouse for 18 weeks beginning in March 2017 and “Dura” dominated for eight frames beginning last April.
J Balvin, Anuel AA & Karol G’s Claim New Top 10s: Meanwhile, two new top 10s on the Latin Rhythm Airplay chart, emerge: J Balvin’s “Reggaeton” rockets up the list sprinting 13-7, and Anuel AA & Karol G’s “Secreto” lifts 12-10.
“Reggaeton” advances by 22 percent to 8.2 million in audience impressions, as Balvin adds his 18th Latin Rhythm Airplay top 10. It also becomes his 16th Latin Airplay top 10, bounding 18-9.
“Secreto” surges by 1 percent to 6.8 million impressions. Anuel notches his third Latin Rhythm Airplay top 10, all since November, while Karol G logs her fourth.
