DaBaby & Roddy Ricch’s ‘Rockstar’ Finishes First on Billboard’s 2020 Songs of the Summer Chart

The 20-position Songs of the Summer running tally tracks the most popular titles based on cumulative performance on the weekly streaming-, airplay- and sales-based Billboard Hot 100 chart from Memorial Day through Labor Day (this year encompassing charts dated June 6 through Sept. 12).

“Rockstar” ruled for 13 of this year’s 15 Songs of the Summer tracking weeks, having taken over at No. 1 on the chart dated June 20, after Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande’s “Rain on Me” led the first list and Megan Thee Stallion’s “Savage,” featuring Beyoncé, topped the second tally.

“Rockstar” has led the weekly Hot 100 for seven weeks, this week placing at No. 4.

Rounding out the 2020 Songs of the Summer top five: The Weeknd‘s “Blinding Lights” (No. 2); Jack Harlow’s “Whats Poppin,” featuring DaBaby, Tory Lanez and Lil Wayne (No. 3); “Savage” (No. 4); and SAINt JHN’s “Roses” (No. 5).

Notably, with DaBaby at No. 1 with “Rockstar” and No. 3 with “Whats Poppin,” he’s the first artist to boast two titles in the top three on a season-ending Songs of the Summer chart since Cardi B just two years ago. In 2018, she held Nos. 2 and 3, respectively, with her own “I Like It,” with Bad Bunny and J Balvin, and as featured on Maroon 5’s “Girls Like You.”

As for the top titles this summer in each of the Hot 100’s three metrics, “Rockstar” was the most streamed (514.6 million, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data, as reflected on charts dated June 6 through Sept. 12); “Blinding Lights” was the most-heard on radio (1.2 billion audience impressions); and BTS‘ “Dynamite” was the most-sold, claiming first place thanks to just its first two sales frames in the last two weeks of the season’s tracking period (486,000 combined digital and physical sales).

In 2019, Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road,” featuring Billy Ray Cyrus, won the Songs of the Summer title. In 2018, Drake’s “In My Feelings” took top honors.

With “Rockstar,” “Old Town Road” and “In My Feelings” all having hit No. 1 on Billboard‘s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, 2018-20 marks the first three-year streak of season-ending Songs of the Summer No. 1s that led the genre list since 2001-05, when Usher’s “U Remind Me” (2001), Nelly’s “Hot in Herre” (2002), Beyoncé’s “Crazy in Love,” featuring Jay-Z (2003), Usher’s “Confessions Part II” (2004) and Mariah Carey’s “We Belong Together” (2005) all finished first.
