“Orphans” marks Coldplay’s best rank on Hot Rock Songs since “Adventure of a Lifetime,” which peaked at No. 2 in February 2016.
In its first full tracking week, the song, released on date Oct. 24 (and up from No. 23), drew 7.6 million radio audience impressions and 5.4 million U.S. streams and sold 4,000 downloads, according to Nielsen Music.
Those numbers spark the song to debuts at No. 2 on Rock Digital Song Sales and No. 9 on Rock Streaming Songs. Additionally, “Orphans” vaults 13-5 on the all-rock-format Rock Airplay chart and debuts at No. 9 on Adult Alternative Songs, tying Vampire Weekend’s “Harmony Hall” for the best bow of 2019. It also flies 27-13 on Alternative Songs.
A second new Coldplay song, “Arabesque” (also released on Oct. 24), bows at No. 29 on Hot Rock Songs, starting with 1.1 million streams and 2,000 sold.
Both are from Everyday Life, Coldplay’s eighth studio LP. The double album is due Nov. 22 on Parlophone/Atlantic.
