Cody Johnson Achieves His First Hot Country Songs No. 1 With ‘ ‘Til You Can’t’

Plus, Sam Hunt's "23" hits the top 10.

Cody Johnson earns his first No. 1 on Billboard‘s airplay-, streaming- and sales-based Hot Country Songs chart (dated Feb. 26) with “‘Til You Can’t.”

Sparking its coronation – from No. 6 – the song surged by 21% to 8.4 million streams, according to MRC Data, as it jumps 7-2 on Country Streaming Songs. It leads Country Digital Song Sales for a second week (3,900 sold) and pushes 10-8 on Country Airplay (17.1 million impressions, up 7%).

“I’m so excited to see the ripples that this song has created,” Johnson says of the track, which Matt Rogers and Ben Stennis co-wrote. “‘Til You Can’t’ has such a positive message, and it’s so much fun to sing. After playing music for almost 15 years, I’m still taken back by the power of a good country song.”

The song is the lead single from Johnson’s CoJo/Warner Music Nashville/WMN LP Human: The Double Album, which arrived at its No. 3 high on Top Country Albums in October 2021, marking his fourth top 10. On the Feb. 26-dated ranking, the set lifts 12-10 (8,000 units, up 10%).


Johnson first hit Hot Country Songs in December 2016 with the first of his seven entries to-date. Three weeks ago, “Can’t” became his first top 10 on the tally.

’23’ IS 10 Plus, Sam Hunt banks his 10th Hot Country Songs top 10 as “23” hops 14-10.

“23,” which Hunt co-wrote, concurrently returns to the Country Airplay top 10, where it’s likewise his 10th hit to reach the region (12-9; 15.9 million, up 9%). It also drew 6 million streams (up 20%) and sold 1,200 downloads (up 4%).

“23” follows Hunt’s “Breaking Up Was Easy in the 90’s,” which led Country Airplay, becoming his eighth No. 1, and reached No. 4 on Hot Country Songs in May 2021.

Hunt is additionally paired with Ingrid Andress on “Wishful Drinking,” which holds at No. 45 best on Country Airplay (1.2 million).
