COASTCITY, the Miami-based duo known for their electric and soulful Caribbean sound, have signed with Atomic Music Group in a move to expand their touring portfolio as they prepare the release their first EP.
Known for their work on high-profile projects for Beyoncé, J Balvin and Chris Brown, Jean Rodríguez and Danny Flores introduced COASTCITY in the summer of 2017, after the pair were working on Rodríguez’s third studio album. Out of that, they decided to team up. Their songs are bilingual, with elements of R&B, pop and Caribbean sounds.
Two of the singles, “Desconocidos” (Strangers) and “Noches y Mañanas” (Nights & Mornings), have been showcased in cities such as Miami, Los Angeles, New York and Las Vegas where last year they attended the Latin Grammy Awards as nominees for their work on several productions.
Atomic Music Group, one of the largest independent talent agencies in the U.S., represent a diverse roster of musicians including Alex Cuba, Ceci Bastida and retro-funk-pop band The Marias, who most recently were booked to perform at the Coachella Valley and Music Festival in April.
COASTCITY’s partnership with Atomic will position the duo in key tours through the rest of 2018. “Not only do they get it, but they’re incredibly passionate about our movement,” Rodríguez and Flores say in a joint statement. “They are the piece of the puzzle we were missing.”
Rodríguez, COASTCITY’s vocalist, worked on Shakira’s 2017 El Dorado album and served as a vocal producer and engineer on Prince Royce’s Five album. Both productions received Latin Grammy nominations. Rodríguez and Flores produced Zendaya’s “X” track and co-wrote and produced Chris Brown’s “Just As I Am.”
COASTCITY’S next single, “Besos Pesos,” featuring Girl Ultra, is scheduled for release in April as tour dates start picking up to coincide with their EP release during the second quarter, according to a rep for the band. In a recent interview with Billboard, Rodríguez said that traveling to Los Angeles frequently, where they wrote their first song as COASTCITY, has influenced their creative process.
“There’s something about L.A.,” Rodríguez said, adding that their recording studio off of the iconic Melrose Avenue has been the perfect place to write, record and drink fine whiskey. “The recording studio has a rooftop were we can see the sunset, it’s located on top of a weed shop, we love the neighborhood and the place is set up with all kinds of analog toys.”
COASTCITY performs at The Echoplex in L.A. on May 3.
