Chris Brown & Drake’s ‘No Guidance’ Smashes R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay Chart Record

Chris Brown and Drake's "No Guidance" collects an unprecedented 24th week at No. 1 on R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart as it tops the list dated Feb. 1.

Chris Brown’s “No Guidance,” featuring Drake, collects an unprecedented 24th week at No. 1 on Billboard‘s R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart as it tops the list dated Feb. 1. The song is now the longest-running leader since the chart launched in April 1992.

The record setter clings to the top spot with a 3% gain to 28.7 million in audience in the week ending Jan. 26, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data.

“Guidance” seizes the chart’s record from Miguel’s “Adorn,” which clocked 23 weeks in charge from 2012-13. With a new title atop the leaderboard, here’s a recap of the longest stays at No. 1 on R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay in its nearly 28-year history.

Weeks at No. 1, Song Title, Artist, Year(s) at No. 1
24, “No Guidance,” Chris Brown featuring Drake, 2019
23, “Adorn,” Miguel, 2012-13
16, “Boo’d Up,” Ella Mai, 2018
15, “Be Without You,” Mary J. Blige, 2006
15, “Hotline Bling,” Drake, 2015-16
14, “We Belong Together,” Mariah Carey, 2005

“Guidance” first checked into the penthouse on Aug. 24. During its historic reign, the juggernaut forced further history in the runner-up slot: Wale’s “On Chill,” featuring Jeremih endured 14 weeks at No. 2 on R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay for the longest run for a No. 2-peaking hit in the chart’s history. (Among all tracks, Rihanna’s “Needed Me” counted 16 weeks in second place in 2016-17, though it reached No. 1 for two weeks.)

“Guidance” traces its longevity to its success at both the mainstream-oriented and adult-leaning R&B formats. The single topped the Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop airplay list for 10 weeks in August – October and ranks at No. 9 on the current chart – its 31st straight week in the top 10.

Meanwhile, Brown and Drake reign supreme on the Adult R&B airplay list, picking up a third frame at No. 1 thanks to a 4% boost in plays in the week.

“Guidance” appears on Brown’s Indigo album, which debuted at No. 1 on both the Billboard 200 and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart in July.
