Glover and his creative agency Wolf + Rothstein are partnering with the Sony Music subsidiary for a new recording and label deal that will release new Gambino music later this year Wolf + Rothstein/RCA Records.
“Donald is undoubtedly one of the most talented, multi-faceted, young entertainers of this era,” said RCA chairman and CEO Peter Edge in a statement. “We are excited to join forces with him and Wolf + Rothstein to usher in the next phase of Childish Gambino’s musical career.”
The new deal sees Glover leave the independent Glassnote Records, with whom he signed in 2011 and released three full-length albums and two mixtapes. Although Gaminbo has seen substantial acclaim during his term with Glassnote, it has not been entirely amicable throughout its duration. In 2014, he slammed the label over what he claimed was a mishandling of a video for his Because The Internet single “Sweatpants” and allegedly lying to him. “We were told a lot of things were gonna happen and they were all lies. So I’m done. Someone buy me out of this contract,” he tweeted at the time.
Regarding the new partnership with RCA, Glover said in a statement, “It was a necessary change of pace.”
Wolf + Rothstein operates out of Temple Studios in Los Angeles and is the brainchild of Glover, Wolf Taylor and Fam Rothstein. As a label, it has previously released Kari Faux’s Lost en Los Angeles and bLAck pARty’s Mango in 2016. Wolf + Rothstein will be partnering with Kobalt for publishing.
“Being malleable is important to us, and that’s what this partnership allows. Also, it was about that time,” said Rothstein in a statement.

Gambino is nominated for five Grammy Awards at this weekend’s event, including album of the year for “Awaken, My Love!” and record of the year for the breakout single “Redbone.” He will also be performing at the show.
