Debut No. 11 “Wrapped In Red” Kelly Clarkson
Artists add their annual holiday decorations to the Adult Contemporary chart, led by Clarkson’s debut at No. 11 with “Wrapped in Red.” The original song is the title cut from her 2013 holiday album. (Only newly released seasonal songs or cuts being promoted to radio for the first time are eligible for the chart.) Two Christmas covers also debut in the tally’s top 15: Whitney Wolanin’s version of “Silver Bells” (No. 12) and Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane’s take on “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” (featuring Sara Bareilles) (No. 15). Meanwhile, Idina Menzel and Michael Buble’s interpretation of the latter carol soars 16-2 as the chart’s Greatest Gainer (up 116 percent in plays, according to Nielsen BDS).

At No. 21, Meghan Trainor bows with a ballad, the seasonal “I’ll Be Home,” after breaking through with the doo-wop/pop-flavored smash “All About That Bass” and follow-up “Lips Are Movin.” Her holiday track is from the Epic compilation I’ll Be Home for Christmas, which features labelmate Bareilles, among others.

Also notable among yuletide debuts: Kenny Rogers reaches the AC chart for the first time since 1991, as Jim Brickman’s “That Silent Night” (featuring Rogers) debuts at No. 25. Rogers had last charted on AC with the No. 9-peaking “Crazy in Love” 23 years ago. The country/pop icon makes his 48th AC visit, tying him with Frank Sinatra for seventh place among acts with the highest totals in the chart’s 53-year history. Elton John leads with 70.
