Hot 100 Chart Moves: Charlie Puth & Meghan Trainor Debut With ‘Marvin Gaye’ Ode
The bow marks Puth's first entry as a lead. Plus, moves for The Weekend, Fifth Harmony, Ed Sheeran & Adam Lambert.

As previously reported, Wiz Khalifa‘s Furious 7 smash “See You Again,” featuring Charlie Puth, leads the Billboard Hot 100 (dated July 4) for a 10th week, while Madonna debuts at No. 84 with “B**** I’m Madonna,” featuring Nicki Minaj.

Who else makes noteworthy moves on the Hot 100 this week?
The Weeknd, “Can’t Feel My Face”
The single zooms 24-12 in its second week with top Airplay and Streaming Gainer honors. “Face,” co-written by Max Martin, bounds by 52 percent to 58 million in radio audience and 53 percent to 6.5 million U.S. streams. The song previews The Weeknd’s forthcoming album.
Fifth Harmony, “Worth It,” feat. Kid Ink
The quintet tallies its first Digital Songs top 10, as “Worth It” pushes 11-9. On the Hot 100, it also lifts to a new high (15-14). The track gains by 5 percent to 82,000 sold in the tracking week and is nearing 1 million sold to-date: it’s up to 957,000.
Ed Sheeran, “Photograph”
The fourth radio single from x hits the Hot 100’s top 40 (41-34), up in all three chart metrics. It climbs 27-24 on Digital Songs (53,000, up 16 percent) and 43-36 on Radio Songs (37 million, up 14 percent) and grows by 8 percent to 2.5 million streams. It follows prior x singles “Sing,” which peaked at No. 13, “Don’t” (No. 9) and “Thinking Out Loud” (No. 2 for eight weeks).
Adam Lambert, “Ghost Town”
As his new The Original High opens on the Billboard 200 at No. 3, Lambert charts his 10th Hot 100 hit, as “Ghost Town” starts as the Hot Shot Debut at No. 73. It’s Lambert’s first Hot 100 entry since 2012 (as is Madonna’s “B**** I’m Madonna”; and, of course, Madonna’s prior single was her similarly-titled different composition “Ghosttown.”)
Charlie Puth, “Marvin Gaye,” feat. Meghan Trainor
As he reigns as featured on “See You Again,” Puth lands his first Hot 100 entry as a lead, as “Marvin Gaye” debuts at No. 87. How did the collab with Trainor (for whom he’ll open on her MTrain Tour, which begins July 3) come about? “Meghan and I were at a party one night, and we were exchanging new music, and she heard ‘Marvin Gaye’ and asked, ‘Who else is singing on this? It should be a duet. Let me sing on it!’,” Puth recently told Billboard. “So I’m like … OK, Meghan Trainor just asked to sing on my song … absolutely! In one day, she knew the whole thing. We did it all in one take.”
Notably, three musical legends appear in song titles on the Hot 100 between Nos. 84 and 87: In addition to “B**** I’m Madonna” and “Marvin Gaye,” John (formerly Cougar) Mellencamp is feted in Keith Urban‘s “John Cougar, John Deere, John 3:16,” up 86-85.
And, Hot 100 leader Puth is a fan of new Billboard 200 champ James Taylor. “He’s the reason why I write music. If he’s reading this: James Taylor, I’d love to work with you! My mom would put headphones on her belly before I was born, so I’ve been listening to him literally all of my life.”
