The Social 50 is powered by data tracked by music analytics company Next Big Sound and ranks the most popular artists on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Wikipedia and Tumblr. The chart’s methodology blends weekly additions of friends/fans/followers along with artist page views and engagement. The chart’s latest tracking week ended Oct. 4.
Aznavour, who died Oct. 1 at 94 of cardiac arrest at his France home, debuts on the Social 50 thanks to 810,000 Wikipedia views accumulated following his death.
He also dots the LyricFind Global charts, which measures the velocity of lyric searches across the world as measured by LyricFind, led by a No. 4 debut with “La Boheme,” his signature song, released in 1965. According to LyricFind, search volume for the song spiked 6,523 percent following his death. The track also reached the LyricFind U.S. chart, which measures U.S.-only activity, at No. 7.
Additionally, “The Old Fashioned Way” (No. 9, LyricFind Global) jumped 22,100 percent in search volume, while “Apres l’Amour” (No. 10, LyricFind Global) leapt 217,200 percent. The latter made the U.S. list at No. 10.
Aznavour first made the Billboard charts in 1974, when “She” reached No. 44 on the Adult Contemporary airplay chart.
In a poll conducted in 1998 by CNN, he was named the entertainer of the century, and last year he was given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
