DJ/producer and fashion influencer Chantel Jeffries, who holds sway over 3.8 million Instagram followers, has become the first signing to Celine Joshua‘s new Universal Music Group imprint, 10:22pm. To kick things off, the label will release Jeffries’ debut single, “Wait,” featuring Offset and Vory, on Friday, May 4.
The track, which she produced and co-wrote, is the lead single to Jeffries’ forthcoming debut EP, Calculated Luck, expected later this year, and pulls from influences including French and European house, the label said.
“For what seems like forever, I’ve been working on crafting my sound, finding my voice and collaborating with extremely talented artists, writers and producers. I love to find different sounds and pull inspiration from the most random things,” said Jeffries, adding that her debut track samples the “wait” sound from an actual crosswalk. “I’ve put my everything into this project and I’m so excited to be able to partner with Celine and the entire Universal family to finally be able share my music with the world.”
When Joshua joined UMG in February as general manager of commercial content and artist strategy, she also brought 10:22 pm with her. The label specializes in signing and developing recording artists, social media influencers and digital media creators with a focus on creating multimedia content and advancing new forms of storytelling, UMG said at the time.
“I’m thrilled that Chantel has chosen 10:22 pm as her home where we will work to develop new commercial and creative opportunities for our artists and content creators to advance their careers and reach new fans around the world,” Joshua said in a statement. “From the moment I met Chantel, I knew she was a creative force with a unique ear for music, and I’m honored that she’s the first artist to sign to my new label.”
