The Chainsmokers Earn 20th Top 10 on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs Chart With ‘iPad’

Plus, moves for Kx5, John Summit & Latto.

The Chainsmokers swipe their 20th top 10 on Billboard‘s multimetric Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart as “iPad” debuts at No. 6 on the list dated March 26. The duo of Alex Pall and Drew Taggart passes Calvin Harris (19) for the second-most top 10s dating to the chart’s January 2013 inception and trails only Kygo (22) for the lead.

The last time The Chainsmokers had placed in the top 10 was on the chart dated Dec. 21, 2019, also with a debut at No. 6, and with a song featuring Kygo: “Family.”

The Chainsmokers have notched a record six Hot Dance/Electronic Songs No. 1s, including two in the 20-weeks club: “Closer,” featuring Halsey (27 weeks at No. 1, 2016-17), and “Something Just Like This,” with Coldplay (25, 2017).

“iPad” powers up with 3 million U.S. streams and 800 downloads sold, according to Luminate, formerly MRC Data. Concurrently, with a No. 8 start on the Dance/Electronic Streaming Songs chart, The Chainsmokers extend their lead for the most top 10s to 16. (Calvin Harris is next, with 14.) Plus, “iPad” enters at No. 7 on Dance/Electronic Digital Song Sales, giving the act its 24th top 10, the list’s fourth-best sum. (David Guetta leads with 39.)

‘ESCAPE’ ENTERS: Kx5, a new joint venture between superstar DJs Kaskade and Deadmau5, debuts at No. 13 on the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart with “Escape,” featuring Hayla. The track bows with 1.5 million streams and 1,200 sold, also good for a No. 4 start on Dance/Electronic Digital Song Sales.

“Escape” is Kaskade’s 23rd Hot Dance/Electronic Songs entry and already his second-highest-charting, eclipsed only by “With You,” with Meghan Trainor (No. 12, 2019). Similarly, for Deadmau5, “Escape,” his 21st appearance, sparks his second-best rank, after “Let Go,” featuring Grabbitz (No. 11, 2017). Hayla hits the chart for the first time.

On Dance/Mix Show Airplay, “Escape” arrives at No. 32, marking Kaskade’s 28th hit and Deadmau5’s 12th (and Hayla’s first). The two have tallied three No. 1s each, including two in tandem: “Move for Me” (for two weeks in 2008) and “I Remember” (two, 2009).

SUMMIT, LATTO LEAP: Additionally on Dance/Mix Show Airplay, John Summit soars 18-8 with “Human,” featuring Echoes. It’s Summit’s second top 10 (and Echoes’ first), after “Sun Came Up,” with Sofi Tukker (No. 2, 2021). The new track is drawing core-dance play on SiriusXM’s BPM, Music Choice’s Dance/EDM channel and iHeartRadio’s Evolution Network, among others. (The Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart measures radio airplay on a select group of full-time dance stations, along with plays during mix shows on nearly 80 top 40-formatted reporters.)

Plus, “Human” hits a new high on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs (37-26), up 62% to 583,000 domestic streams.

Meanwhile, Latto lifts to her first Dance/Mix Show Airplay top 10 with “Big Energy” (19-10). The track, built upon Tom Tom Club’s classic “Genius of Love,” has hit No. 2 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and holds at its No. 14 high on the Billboard Hot 100.
