‘Joy’ to the World: The Chainsmokers Debut at No. 1 on Top Dance/Electronic Albums Chart

Plus, Galantis, Dolly Parton, Tiesto & Mabel earn first No. 1s.

The Chainsmokers debut at No. 1 on Billboard‘s Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart (dated Dec. 21) with World War Joy. The set starts with 14,000 equivalent album units, including 2,000 from traditional album sales, according to Nielsen Music.

The Chainsmokers add their fifth No. 1, which follows the EP of the same name, which spent four weeks at No. 1 in June-August. The duo ties Daft Punk and Lady Gaga for the second-most No. 1s of all acts since the chart’s July 2001 inception; only Louie DeVito, with seven, has more.

The twosome’s other Top Dance/Electronic Albums No. 1s: EP Collage (14 weeks, 2016-17); Memories…Do Not Open (46 weeks, 2017-18); and Sick Boy (14 weeks, 2018-19). Since Collage hit the top on Nov. 26, 2016, The Chainsmokers’ five No. 1s are the most of all acts (ahead of runner-up Marshmello’s three).

On Hot Dance/Electronic Songs, The Chainsmokers bow four Joy tracks, led by “Family,” a collaboration with Kygo, at No. 6. The pair ups its count to 19 top 10s, chugging ahead of Calvin Harris (18), for the most dating to the chart’s January 2013 launch. “Family” is Kygo’s 12th top 10, ranking him in fourth place, after The Chainsmokers, Harris and David Guetta (13).

“Family” earned 3.4 million U.S. streams in the tracking week, good for a No. 16 start on Dance/Electronic Streaming Songs. Plus, with 4,000 downloads sold, the track jets in at No. 1 on Dance/Electronic Digital Song Sales, marking The Chainsmokers’ record-extending 11th No. 1 and Kygo’s fourth.

Turning to Dance/Mix Show Airplay, Galantis and Dolly Parton prance 3-1 with “Faith,” featuring Mr. Probz, the first No. 1 on the chart for both lead acts. It’s the second leader for Mr. Probz, after “Waves” (two weeks, August 2014). “Faith” was remixed by JORD, Lodato and the tandem of Jewelz and Sparkz, among others.

(The Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart measures radio airplay on a select group of full-time dance stations, along with plays during mix shows on nearly 80 top 40-formatted reporters).

“Faith” previously debuted atop Dance/Electronic Digital Song Sales, becoming Parton’s first-ever dance/electronic chart-topper.

Additionally, Halsey hails her seventh Dance/Mix Show Airplay top 10 with “Graveyard” (15-9), thanks, in part, to an Axwell remix.
