How a Cautious Clay Single Raised Over $175K for MusiCares’ COVID-19 Relief Fund
100% of net profits from each stream and download of the collaborative single was donated to the Recording Academy's charitable arm MusiCares.

Collaborative single “Cheesin'” by Cautious Clay, Remi Wolf, Still Woozy, Sophie Meiers, Claud, Melanie Faye and HXNS has raised more than $175,000 for MusiCares COVID-19 Relief Fund.
The tune was released in 2020 via JJ Corsini’s label, slowplay, in partnership with Republic Records/Imperial as a charity effort, with 100 percent of net profits from each stream and download donated to the Recording Academy’s charitable arm MusiCares, which provides financial assistance and resources to music industry professionals in need.
“This song was such a no brainer for us,”Corsini said in a statement. “It stands for everything we did as a brand new label. A great pop song, created by some of our favorite new artists around, with a really meaningful and sincere philanthropic mission.”
Clay, who first imagined the track alongside producer HXNS, said in a statement, “When Covid hit in 2020, I had been working on my album, Deadpan Love, but didn’t feel like ‘Cheesin’’ was right for it.”
“I wanted it to go somewhere,” Clay added. “So I reached out to JJ [Corsini] and the team at Republic and decided to release it as a benefit for all of the work lost specifically for people in the live music industry. It felt right for everyone involved. Still Woozy, Claud, Remi, Melanie, HXNS and Sophie were all stoked about it, and it just ended up being good timing.”
Laura Segura, executive director of MusiCares, said in a statement, “When the COVID-19 pandemic started, we could have never foreseen the impact that it would have on members of the music community. We have seen an increased need for our program’s health and welfare services over the last two years and support from collaborations like ‘Cheesin’’ allowed us to offer COVID-19 relief to music professionals and continue our health and human services to assist with physical and mental health, preventative clinics and so much more.”
The MusiCares COVID-19 Relief Fund is the organization’s longest running, specific relief effort since its inception in 1989. Between March 2020 and July 2021, MusiCares’ COVID relief efforts have reached 38,000 people with more than $29 million distributed.
