Cage the Elephant has made up a two-song lead by Shinedown, whose most recent top 10, “Monsters,” reached the region last June. Before “Black Madonna,” Cage’s previous single “Social Cues” became its 11th top last August on its way to a one-week stay at No. 1 in October.
Meanwhile, Cage the Elephant has landed eight straight songs in the Rock Airplay top 10. The longest streak in the chart’s history is nine, pulled off by both Shinedown (2009-12, from “Sound of Madness” through “I’ll Follow You”) and Twenty One Pilots (2015-present; “Tear in My Heart” through “The Hype”).
“Black Madonna” concurrently leaps 6-3 on the Adult Alternative Songs airplay chart and bullets its No. 8 high on the Alternative Songs airplay list.
It’s the third single from Social Cues, Cage the Elephant’s fifth studio set, which debuted at No. 2 on Top Rock Albums and No. 21 on the Billboard 200 in May 2019 and has earned 150,000 equivalent album units to date.
