Cage the Elephant Notches Ninth Alternative Songs No. 1 With ‘Social Cues’

The band takes over sole possession of the fifth-most leaders in the chart's history.

Cage the Elephant collects its ninth leader on Billboard‘s Alternative Songs airplay chart, as “Social Cues” climbs 2-1 on the Oct. 19-dated list.

With its latest leader, the band takes over sole possession of the fifth-most No. 1s in the chart’s three-decade history, breaking out of a tie with U2.

Red Hot Chili Peppers leads the all-time list with 13.

“Social Cues” previously topped the Adult Alternative Songs airplay chart for a week (Oct. 5), marking Cage the Elephant’s fourth No. 1.

The band will next attempt to take the song to No. 1 on the all-rock-format Rock Airplay chart, where it bullets at No. 3 with 8.7 million audience impressions, according to Nielsen Music. Should it reign, it would become the act’s fifth leader and second this year, after “Ready to Let Go,” which dominated for six weeks beginning in March.
