Cage the Elephant Scores Best Alternative Songs Debut With ‘Ready to Let Go’
The song is the lead single from the band's upcoming LP, "Social Cues."

Cage the Elephant‘s new single “Ready to Let Go” is off to a strong start at radio, scoring the band its best Alternative Songs airplay chart debut in its near-decade career.
“Ready to Let Go” bows at No. 20 on the Feb. 9-dated Alternative Songs tally, topping the No. 22 start for “Shake Me Down” in 2011.
In all, it’s the fourth time the band has debuted in the Alternative Songs top 30. Following “Shake,” “Take It or Leave It” started at No. 30 (2014) and “Mess Around,” the lead single from Cage the Elephant’s previous album Tell Me I’m Pretty, debuted at No. 23 (2015).
“Ready to Let Go” also opens at No. 13 on the all-rock-format Rock Airplay chart with 4.3 million audience impressions, according to Nielsen Music. That’s by far the band’s best debut on the list, which began in 2009, eclipsing the No. 27 start of “Mess Around.”
The Rock Airplay debut is the best for any act since Twenty One Pilots‘ “Jumpsuit,” which bowed at No. 4 on the July 21, 2018-dated tally.
The lofty arrival of “Ready to Let Go” on Rock Airplay is helped not only by its Alternative Songs start but also the song’s presence at the adult alternative and mainstream rock radio formats; it’s bubbling under Adult Alternative Songs and Mainstream Rock Songs and is expected to reach both lists next week (dated Feb. 16).
The song becomes Cage the Elephant’s latest on the streaming-, airplay- and sales-based Hot Rock Songs chart, starting at No. 46.
“Ready to Let Go” is the lead single from Social Cues, the band’s fifth studio LP, due April 19.
