Oh Honey
Brooklyn’s Oh Honey, aka Danielle Bouchard and Mitchy Collins, is sweetening pop playlists with its breakout single, “Be Okay” (Atlantic/RRP). The song, which mixes an effervescent, melodic chorus with equally upbeat lyrics, has already scored a notable synch: The cast of Fox’s “Glee” covered it on the show’s March 25 episode (a rarity, as “Glee” almost never covers songs that aren’t established hits). The pair, which is managed by Manncom Cree-8-iV (helmed by veteran singer-songwriter/label exec Billy Mann), is on tour in the U.S. and Canada opening for James Blunt through May 19, followed by 33 dates with the Fray through July.
David Fanning
Singer/songwriter/producer David Fanning’s cover of Justin Timberlake’s “Drink You Away” stirs below the Country Airplay chart. The song is the Alabama native’s debut single for the Red Bow label, while his songwriting credits include cuts by Thompson Square, Scotty McCreery and Parmalee. Timberlake’s version of “Drink” appears on his Billboard 200 No. 1 “The 20/20 Experience (2 of 2).” On a recent concert stop in Nashville, Timberlake visited the SiriusXM studios, where he told “The Highway” personality Storme Warren that the composition could be a country song. Warren then surprised Timberlake by playing him Fanning’s version. (It’s also not the first time that Timberlake’s music has gone country: Alabama’s cover of ‘N Sync’s “God Must Have Spent a Little More Time on You,” featuring ‘N Sync, rose to No. 3 on Hot Country Songs in 1999.)
Jillette Johnson
Jillette Johnson’s emotional ballad “Torpedo” is aiming for a debut on the Adult Pop Songs chart. The Wind-Up Records singer/songwriter’s driving song boasts leading support from KALC Denver and has been on the rise since it was heard in the third-season finale of VH1’s “Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta” last July. Johnson recently premiered the music video for the track (filmed in the middle of a blizzard) and will support O.A.R. on a handful of upcoming concert dates.
