The BTS A.R.M.Y. flexes its power once again by sending a 16-month-old b-side to a new Billboard chart peak.
Following a fan-created online campaign titled #MagicShopIsOpen that references the fan-favorite track “Magic Shop” originally released off BTS’ Love Yourself: Tear album — celebrated by many choosing to downloading the track — the emotional synth-pop cut returns to World Digital Song Sales at No. 3 on the chart dated Sept. 28, 2019. The track sold an additional 1,000 downloads in the week ending Sept. 19, according to Nielsen Music, bringing the cut’s total downloads to 18,000 sold. Previous to this week, “Magic Shop” had peaked at No. 6 on World Digital Song Sales and had spent a total of five weeks on the chart.
Notably, “Magic Shop” was never pushed as a single but remains a BTS/A.R.M.Y. anthem with the call-and-response hook of “So, show me /I’ll show you” lyrics acting as a highlight of the concerts. The track also appeared on BTS’ compilation album Love Yourself: Answer which, along with Tear, topped the Billboard 200 in 2018. As of Sept. 19, 2019, Love Yourself: Tear has earned 639,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. while Love Yourself: Answer has earned 1.07 million equivalent album units, according to Nielsen Music.
When looking at BTS’ top 10 best-selling digital songs in the U.S., there’s a healthy mix of title-track singles and album cuts throughout their careers. The list is led by “Mic Drop” with 186,000 downloads sold through Sept. 19. It is followed by “Fake Love” (105,000 downloads sold), “Dope” (100,000), “Fire” (100,000), “I Need U” (98,000), “Blood Sweat & Tears” (97,000), “DNA” (96,000), “Save Me” (92,000) “Idol (both the original and version featuring Nicki Minaj, 86,000) and “Boy With Luv” featuring Halsey (81,000).
