Like many other social media platforms, Instagram recently shared its annual Year in Review, and the photo and video sharing app revealed that BTS’ fandom ARMY and the “In My Feelings” dance challenge were two of the biggest music-associated trends on the site in 2018.
Last week, Instagram published a blog post and video rehashing the past 12 months on its site. In it, the platform declared BTS’ ARMY the top fandom community of 2018 and also revealed that the biggest viral dance trend of the year was the “In My Feelings” challenge (#inmyfeelingschallenge) associated with the Drake song.
“K-pop’s dominance on social media is reflected by BTS ‘Army’ being the top fandom community on the platform,” reads the post published on Instagram’s press site. “The biggest viral dance challenge of the year was also born on Instagram, with #inmyfeelingschallenge, which included everyone from @theshiggyshow to @willsmith, coming in at number 1.”
As of the chart dated Dec. 22, BTS has spent 105 weeks at No. 1 on the Social 50 chart.
The two major music trends on Instagram overlapped earlier this year, when J-Hope of BTS partook in the “In My Feelings” challenge and ended up appearing in the credits for the music video of Drake’s song.
Other popular trends on Instagram this year also included ASMR, Fortnite, and the Me Too, Times Up, and March for Our Lives movements.
