Bryson Tiller’s ‘Anniversary’ Celebrates No. 1 Start on Top R&B Albums Chart

The singer-rapper's third studio set leads the R&B Albums list with 57,000 album units while eight songs land on the R&B songs chart.

Bryson Tiller captures his second No. 1 set on Billboard’s Top R&B Albums chart as Anniversary starts atop the list dated Oct. 17. The LP, released Oct. 2 through Trapsoul/RCA Records, arrives with 57,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending Oct. 8, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data.

The singer-rapper previously topped the R&B albums chart with previous full-length, True to Self, which opened with 107,000 units in June 2017. His breakout release, Trapsoul, debuted and peaked at No. 2 on the list in 2015, and ranks at No. 6 on the new Top R&B Albums list thanks to its deluxe edition that Tiller released on Sept. 25 to celebrate its five-year anniversary. The expanded edition adds three cuts, including a version of “Rambo (Last Blood)” featuring vocals from The Weeknd.

Beyond its Top R&B Albums coronation, Anniversary concurrently debuts at No. 4 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and at No. 5 on the Billboard 200, which ranks albums of all genres.

As Anniversary arrives, seven of its 10 tracks debut on the Hot R&B Songs chart:

No. 3, “Outta Time,” featuring Drake
No. 4, “Always Forever”
No. 9, “Sorrows”
No. 10, “I’m Ready for You”
No. 11, “Things Change”
No. 15, “Next to You”
No. 16, “Keep Doing What You’re Doing”

The seven new recruits push Tiller to 36 career entries on Hot R&B Songs since the chart began in 2012. Plus, Anniversary cut “Inhale,” which debuted at No. 8 in September, re-enters at No. 14 thanks to streaming of the album.

Four of the above cuts also generate enough popularity to debut on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs list, led by “Outta Time” at No. 22. “Forever” follows at No. 33, while “Sorrows” and “I’m Ready For You” occupy the chart’s anchor spots at Nos. 49 and 50, respectively. Plus, the rap-leaning song “Years Go By” enters at No. 34.

Activity surrounding Anniversary rockets Tiller 72-8 on the Billboard Artist 100, a weekly ranking of artist popularity through these music consumption metrics of album and track sales, radio airplay, streaming and social media fan interaction. Tiller’s current No. 8 standing represents the Louisville artist’s best showing since he reached No. 3 in June 2017 upon release of True to Self.
