Bryan Popin‘s “Beautiful Savior,” featuring Tasha Page-Lockhart, ascends 2-1 on Billboard’s Gospel Airplay chart, dated May 22. In the week ending May 16, the song, which Popin wrote solo, increased by 20%, according to MRC Data.
Popin, originally from Middletown, N.J., and currently based in Nashville, earns his first Gospel Airplay leader. Among his six entries, he’s earned an additional top 10: “I Got Out” peaked at No. 4 in 2017.
“After all the loss, the hurt, pain and even at times the anger I’ve felt and experienced during this pandemic year, I have faced many highs and lows,” Popin tells Billboard. “Like other artists, all of my tours, live dates and events were canceled, and I had to figure out how to provide for my six kids. But God … to see how this song has connected and grown is special. To be called No. 1 is not only a first, but also humbling.”
Page-Lockhart likewise lands her first Gospel Airplay No. 1 among two top 10s. “Different,” her first of four entries, reached No. 5 in 2014. Formerly known as Natasha Marie Page, she came to prominence after winning the sixth season of BET’s talent competition Sunday Best in 2013.
