Bruno Mars & Cardi B’s ‘Finesse’ Hits No. 1 on Adult R&B Songs Chart

Bruno Mars & Cardi B’s “Finesse” leaps to No. 1 on the Adult R&B Songs airplay chart (dated April 28) with a 3-1 jump. The song climbs 6 percent in plays in the week ending April 22, according to Nielsen Music.

“Finesse” secures Cardi B’s first No. 1 on the chart among two entries. She also reached Adult R&B Songs in a featured role on Josh X’s “Heaven on My Mind,” which hit No. 22 in January 2017.

For Mars, his latest chart-topper secures his fourth career No. 1 on Adult R&B Songs. He previously ruled via a featured turn on Mark Ronson’s “Uptown Funk!,” a three-week leader in 2015, and with his own “24K Magic” (three weeks, 2017) and “That’s What I Like” (six weeks, 2017).

With its Adult R&B Songs takeover, “Finesse” continues its strong showing across Billboard’s urban-leaning radio charts. The song also ruled for two weeks on Rhythmic Songs earlier this year, and reached No. 2 on both R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay and Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop.

‘Organic’ Grows: Meanwhile, Stokley’s “Organic” reaches a new peak on Adult R&B Songs as it moves 11-9. It’s the single’s fourth week in the chart’s top 10 overall, with three prior weeks at No. 10.

The growth comes from a 7 percent rise in plays for the week.

Peabo Returns: Plus, Peabo Bryson returns to the top 20 of the Adult R&B Songs chart for the first time since 1999 as “Love Likes Yours and Mine” ascends 24-18 in its second chart week. “Love” leaps with a 90 percent surge in weekly plays, and its mighty increase earns the track the week’s Greatest Gainer prize.

Bryson first reached the Billboard charts in 1976 with his debut hit, “Underground Music,” which climbed to No. 47 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. He logged 40 more entries on that chart through 1993, including 10 top 10s. Of those, two ventured all the way to No. 1: “Show and Tell,” a one-week leader in 1989 and “Can You Stop The Rain,” a two-week champ in 1991. 

Fans of animated Disney films may also recognize Bryson from his contributions to multiple of the film powerhouse’s soundtracks. He scored two top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 thanks to the pop radio-promoted duets “Beauty and The Beast,” with Celine Dion, a No. 9 success in 1992, and Aladdin‘s “A Whole New World,” a No. 1 hit with Regina Belle, the following year.

Bryson made his Adult R&B Songs debut with 1998’s “My Heart Belongs To You,” a No. 10 hit. He’s since logged five more titles, including another top 10 effort in 1999’s “Did You Ever Know.”
