Brandy and Daniel Caesar lead the Adult R&B Songs airplay chart as their duet “Love Again” skips 3-1 on the list dated Nov. 23. The collaboration, released via Golden Child/Brand Nu/eOne rises with a 12% surge in plays in the week ending Nov. 17, according to Nielsen Music.
With the ascent, Brandy scores her first leader on Adult R&B Songs on her 18th entry. She previously reached as high as No. 2 on three different occasions: “Baby” (1995), “Missing You,” a collaboration with Tamia, Gladys Knight and Chaka Khan from Set It Off (1996) and “Almost Doesn’t Count” (1999).
The singer’s first No. 1 arrives just over 25 years to her chart entrance. Brandy’s debut single, “I Wanna Be Down,” entered the Adult R&B chart on Sept. 17, 1994 at No. 39. It became the first of her nine top 10s, peaking at No. 5 that November.
Daniel Caesar, meanwhile, maintains a perfect chart batting average with his third No. 1 from three total career entries. Notably, all his No. 1s have been duets with women: “Get You,” featuring Kali Uchis ruled for one week in February 2018, while “Best Part,” featuring H.E.R. landed four weeks in charge in October – November that year.
There’s more good news for Brandy and Caesar this week: “Love Again” recieved a nomination for best R&B performance for the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards, to be held Jan. 26, 2020. Caesar enters the ceremony as the defending champion, having picked up the 2019 prize in the same category for “Part.”
“Again” appears on Caesar’s sophomore release, Case Study 01, which peaked at No. 10 on the Top R&B Albums chart in July.
