Brandi Carlile Notches Second No. 1 on Top Rock Albums Chart

"By the Way, I Forgive You," Carlile's sixth studio album, also arrives as her fourth No. 1 on Americana/Folk Albums.

Brandi Carlile notches her second No. 1 on Billboard‘s Top Rock Albums chart (dated March 3), as By the Way, I Forgive You, her sixth studio set, starts with 43,000 equivalent album units, according to Nielsen Music.

Of that sum, 41,000 are via traditional album sales, marking Carlile’s second-best sales frame, narrowly trailing only The Firewatcher’s Daughter (42,000). That set became her first No. 1 on Top Rock Albums (March 21, 2015).

The new LP also debuts atop Americana/Folk Albums, where it’s Carlile’s fourth No. 1, following Daughter, Bear Creek (June 23, 2012; 27,000 sold) and 2010’s XOBC EP (Feb. 27, 2010; 10,000 sold).

On the all-genre Billboard 200, By the Way marks Carlile’s best rank and first top five title, as it debuts at No. 5. It surpasses the No. 9 bow and peak of Daughter.

Meanwhile, By the Way‘s lead single “The Joke” enters Hot Rock Songs (No. 43), granting Carlile her first appearance on the chart since “That Wasn’t Me,” which peaked at No. 41 on the Sept. 22, 2012-dated survey. “Joke” also returns to its No. 8 peak on the Adult Alternative Songs airplay chart, where it’s her fifth top 10, dating back to her first, “The Story (I Was Made for You)” (No. 3, 2007).
