BMG Enters Global Partnership With Regional Mexican Label DEL Records

Under the new pact, BMG will become the exclusive worldwide publishing administrator for each of DEL's publishing entities: DEL Melodies, DEL World Songs and DEL New Music.

BMG has entered a new long-term global partnership with DEL Records, an indie label focused on regional Mexican music.

Under the new pact, BMG will become the exclusive worldwide publishing administrator for each of DEL’s publishing entities: DEL Melodies, DEL World Songs and DEL New Music. BMG, which has been named ASCAP’s Latin Independent Publisher of the Year for the past three years, has been the publishing administrator of the DEL catalog since 2016.

“My philosophy has always been to lead and create markets,” said the label’s founder and CEO Angel de Villar in a release. “This has been driven by the love for what I do and the fans who connect with it. As we continue to grow and redefine what it means to be a music label in today’s age, we look forward to having BMG as our partners as we look to the future.”

Founded in 2008, the Los Angeles-based DEL Records is perhaps best known for launching Mexican-American singer-songwriter Gerardo Ortíz, before he ended his contract with the label last month. DEL is also behind the careers of acts like Luis Coronel, Ulices Chaidez y Sus Plebes and Regulo Caro.

Its artists are frequent winners at the Billboard Latin Music Awards, having taken home 15 such honors since 2012. And that number is likely to climb at the awards show’s 2019 edition on April 25, where DEL and its artists are up for six awards including Regional Mexican albums label of the year.

“As a record label that moves markets, DEL Records has always been a leader in digital optimization, monetization and marketing,” said DEL president Luca Scalisi. “This deal speaks to the great history we have had together on that front, as well as the optimism we have about continuing to lead in our genre, further expand the business model and create new opportunities with partners like BMG.”

Added Thomas Scherer, DEL executive vp of repertoire and marketing in Los Angeles: “BMG agradece de todo corazón DEL Records, their artists and writers, and congratulates them on a decade of success! Latin music has always been a global influence on the creative music community and now serves as an inspiration for the global entertainment industry at-large. DEL has always had a vision for their music and this is just the beginning — much more to come!”
