Blake Shelton Extends Streak on Country Airplay Chart to 14 Straight No. 1s
Blake Shelton's latest single extends his active No. 1 streak on Country Airplay.
Blake Shelton extends the longest active No. 1 streak on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart (counting only non-seasonal, promoted singles), as “Lonely Tonight,” featuring Ashley Monroe, becomes his 14th consecutive leader, stepping 2-1; the string is also the longest overall, not just active, in the chart’s 25-year history. “Lonely” is Shelton’s 19th chart-topper overall. He’d most recently reached the summit with “Neon Light” in November.

Shelton’s run began nearly five years ago when “Hillbilly Bone,” featuring Trace Adkins, topped the March 27, 2010, list. Among all artists with active No. 1 streaks, his lead is a wide one: Jason Aldean and Luke Bryan follow with three each, while five other acts have each taken their last two to the summit: Frankie Ballard, Billy Currington, Brett Eldredge, Florida Georgia Line and Joe Nichols. Shelton’s last non-No. 1: “I’ll Just Hold On,” which reached No. 8 in 2009.

“Lonely” marks featured singer Monroe’s first solo leader and best rank since reaching No. 37 with “I Don’t Want To,” with Ronnie Dunn, eight years ago (Feb. 3, 2007). She previously joined Shelton atop the June 29, 2013, chart as one of the Pistol Annies; the trio (Monroe, Miranda Lambert and Angaleena Presley) are featured on “Boys ‘Round Here.”
