Get Into My Catalog: Billy Ocean Signs With Sony/ATV Music Publishing

Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Billy Ocean has signed a deal to bring his catalog of hits to Sony/ATV Music Publishing. The Trinidad-born, UK-raised artist had a string of pop hits throughout the 1980s, including the Hot 100 No. 1s “Caribbean Queen (No More Love On The Run)”, “There’ll Be Sad Songs (To Make You Cry)” and “Get Outta My Dreams, Get Into My Car,” as well as two that just missed that milestone, "When The Going Gets Tough, The Tough Get Going" and "Lover Boy."

Sony/ATV has also secured the catalog of songs written by Noddy Holder and Jim Lea for their band Slade. The deal, an expansion of an existing pact with Sony/ATV in Germany, includes the 1970s hits  “Coz I Luv You”, “Mama Weer All Crazee Now” and "Cum On Feel The Noize," which became an even bigger hit a decade later for American metal band Quiet Riot.

The company’s London-based catalogue team has also secured deal extensions and/or renewals with talent including Billy Bragg, Divine Comedy, The Real Thing, Embrace, Doves and The Bluetones, along with new arrangements with Swing Out Sister and Matt Bianco/Basia.

"I am extremely proud that all these wonderful songwriters and artists have decided to entrust their amazing catalogues of songs with Sony/ATV," said Fran Malyan, svp A&R/catalogue. "Catalogue is a real priority for us and these deals show just how focused we are on this important area of our business. For us, it is all about being proactive. We have an experienced and dedicated Catalogue team who are actively working these iconic catalogues and doing everything possible to make them grow."
