Billie Eilish scores her first U.K. No. 1 single with “No Time To Die” (Interscope/Universal), which becomes the fastest-selling of the year to date. Per available Official Charts Company records, it records the biggest-ever opening week for a James Bond movie theme.
First-week combined units for “No Time To Die” total 90,000, including 10.6 million streams. Eilish becomes the youngest artist to take a Bond theme to the top, and it’s the first by a woman to lead the U.K. bestsellers. The only previous No. 1 in the long history of the franchise’s theme songs was Sam Smith‘s “Writing’s On The Wall” in 2015.
Eilish’s achievements come three days after she won best international female at the 40th Brit Awards, and in the week that the 18-year-old passed one billion audio streams of all her music in the U.K.
Last week’s best-selling single, The Weeknd‘s “Blinding Lights” (XO/Republic/ Universal), falls to No. 2. Roddy Ricch‘s “The Box” (Atlantic/Warner), Lewis Capaldi‘s “Before You Go” (EMI/Universal) and Dua Lipa‘s “Don’t Start Now” (Warner Records) also fall one place each, at Nos. 3, 4 and 5.
Meanwhile, Justin Bieber gets his second chart-topping U.K. album with Changes (Def Jam/Universal). Three tracks from Bieber’s album are in the top 40: “Intentions,” featuring Quavo, is up 14-10; “Yummy” moves 13-12 and “Forever,” featuring Post Malone and Clever, debuts at No. 29.
Changes wins a photo-finish for the album crown, ending the week fewer than 150 combined units ahead of Capaldi’s Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent. The Scottish singer-songwriter nevertheless sees a 20% upswing in album sales after his double Brit win as best new artist and for song of the year with “Someone You Loved.” Bieber’s only previous U.K. chart-topping album was Believe in 2012.
Tame Impala debut at No. 3 with The Slow Rush (Fiction/Universal), which is the bestselling vinyl album of the week. Eilish climbs 6-4 with When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? and British pop trio New Hope Club‘s eponymous album on EMI/Universal starts at No. 5, completing an all-Universal Music Group top five.
