Billie Eilish vaults from No. 12 to No. 1 on the Billboard Artist 100 chart (dated April 13), to become the top musical act in the U.S. for the first time, as the alt-pop singer-songwriter’s new album When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 313,000 equivalent album units, according to Nielsen Music.
The set launches with the second-largest week of 2019, in terms of total units, after Ariana Grande’s Thank U, Next (360,000).
The Artist 100 measures artist activity across key metrics of music consumption, blending album and track sales, radio airplay, streaming and social media fan interaction to provide a weekly multi-dimensional ranking of artist popularity.
Eilish’s Artist 100 reign is also powered by her 14 entries on the Billboard Hot 100, a sum that breaks the record (one-upping Cardi B’s 13 in 2018) for the most simultaneous charted titles on the tally among women. Leading the way, “Bad Guy” bounds in at No. 7, marking Eilish’s first Hot 100 top 10.
Nipsey Hussle re-enters the Artist 100 at No. 4, a new peak, after his death on March 31. The rapper previously peaked at No. 13 in March 2018, and returns on the strength of five albums on the Billboard 200 and four songs on the Hot 100. On the former, his 2018 album Victory Lap re-enters at a new No. 2 high.
Rounding out the Artist 100’s top five, Grande dips to No. 2 after 13 total weeks on top; Post Malone drops 2-3; and Khalid, who appears headed for his first Billboard 200 No. 1, holds at No. 5.
