Collectively, the tunes performed on the May 1 broadcast on NBC snared a 102% sales gain, when comparing their combined sales on May 1 and May 2 versus April 29 and April 30. The show was hosted by Kelly Clarkson for the second year in a row, and featured performances by the likes of Taylor Swift with Brendon Urie; Madonna and Maluma; and Jonas Brothers.
In total, the performed songs sold 81,000 downloads on May 1-2, a big jump over the 40,000 sold on April 29-30. (Not included in these figures are selections in the four-minute, 13-song medley performed by Clarkson, who sang snippets of tracks by other artists.)
One of the most notable increases were tallied by Lauren Daigle’s “You Say,” which scored a big 260% leap in sales. It rallied from 3,000 sold on April 29-30 to 10,000 on May 1-2. In fact, “You Say” accounted for 12% of the total sales for May 1-2 among all of the performed songs. The surge in sales for “You Say” makes sense, as it seems a lot of people discovered Daigle and the track via the show, according to Shazam. According the company, it was the most Shazamed performance at the ceremony, accounting for 25% of all Shazams taken of performances during the broadcast.
Jonas Brothers’ “Sucker” surged by 179%, rising from 3,000 to nearly 10,000. Not so coincidentally, “Sucker” was also the second-most Shazamed tune of the evening. The third-most Shazamed track, Dan + Shay’s “Speechless” (performed on the show alongside Tori Kelly), grew by 417% — climbing from 1,000 sold to 6,000.
