Billboard Dance Chart Upstarts: Starley, Glovibes & Visible Cloaks

Starley, “Call on Me”
Pop singer Starley starts at No. 38 on the Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart (dated March 11) with “Call on Me,” her first chart hit. Seattle’s full-time dance-formatted KNHC (C89.5) leads in radio airplay, granting the Ryan Riback-remixed track more than twice as many plays (34) in the tracking week ending Feb. 26 as any other format outlet, according to Nielsen Music. KNHC program director JB McDaniel tells Billboard of the remixed track, “We discovered it in December and put it on a head-to-head new music feature, where our listeners voted for it enthusiastically and repeatedly.” The global hit, which reached No. 6 on the Official UK Singles chart (Feb. 11), “spent almost a full week knocking off other big records. That’s when we knew it was going to be a great song in the station’s rotation. It’s been in our top category since December and shows no signs of stopping.”
Glovibes, Gary Caos, “Watch Out”
Los Angeles-based DJ Glovibes (real name Leonardo Abbate) and Italian producer Gary Caos vault 15-10 on Dance Club Songs with “Watch Out.” It’s the second top 10 for Glo, whose “One by One,” with Luciana, hit N0. 5 last April. “Watch,” an unconventional dance take on Lauryn Hill’s 1998 Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 “Doo Wop (That Thing),” is also the first chart action for Caos. Remixes from Rick Cross, Moodyboy and NerveStrain, among others (a remix EP is set for release on March 17), have helped push “Watch” up the chart.
Visible Cloaks, Reassemblage
Experimental ambient electronic act Visible Cloaks edge onto Dance/Electronic Album Sales at No. 25 with Reassemblage. It’s the first Billboard chart appearance for the Spencer Doran-fronted project. The album, which contains collaborations with Motion Graphics, Matt Carlson and Miyako Koda, among others, concurrently debuts at No. 10 on New Age Albums.
