Jonas Blue featuring William Singe, “Mama”
U.K.-based DJ/producer Jonas Blue scores the leading debut on Billboard‘s Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart (dated Aug. 5) with “Mama,” featuring William Singe (No. 33). Blue broke out early last year with his tropical house cover of Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car” (featuring Dakota), reaching No. 14 in May 2016, and he hit No. 10 with “Perfect Strangers” (featuring JP Cooper) in October. “Mama” follows “By Your Side” (featuring Raye, No. 19 this March) as Blue’s fourth chart hit, and singer Singe’s first. “Mama” is Singe’s second on a Billboard chart, as his “Pony” trotted No. 19 on Hot R&B Songs in January 2016. Airplay leaders on “Mama” include core dance-formatted outlets KNHC (C89.5) Seattle, WFLZ-HD Tampa, Florida (an iHeartRadio “Evolution” affiliate), and Music Choice’s Dance/EDM channel.
RAC (real name Andre Anjos and an acronym for Remix Artist Collective) enters Top Dance/Electronic Albums at No. 24 with Ego, his fourth charted title and first in three years. The set earned 2,000 equivalent album units in its first week, according to Nielsen Music. Of those, half are from traditional album sales, enough for a No. 6 arrival on Dance/Electronic Album Sales. In 2014, RAC reached No. 38 on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs with “Cheap Sunglasses,” featuring Matthew Koma. Ego continues a good year for RAC: he began 2017 by winning the best remixed recording Grammy Award for his take on Bob Moses‘ “Tearing Me Up.”
Los Angeles-based R5 rises 46-37 on Dance Club Songs with “If,” its first Billboard dance chart appearance. The pop act, consisting of siblings Riker, Rydel, Rocky and Ross (plus f”r”iend Ratliff), has hit the Billboard 200 four times, including with studio set Sometime Last Night (No. 6, January 2015). That studio set yielded “Let’s Not Be Alone Tonight,” which reached No. 38 on Pop Songs in May 2015. “If” was remixed by Country Club Martini Crew, Ku De Ta and Wideboys, among others.
