On the latest Billboard 200 albums chart (dated Feb. 10), Migos notched its second No. 1, with the arrival of Culture II atop the tally. The title earned 199,000 equivalent album units in the week ending Feb. 1, according to Nielsen Music. Of that sum, 38,000 were in traditional album sales.
The Billboard 200 chart ranks the week’s most popular albums based on their overall consumption. That overall unit figure combines pure album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA).
Now, let’s take a closer look at some of the action on the rest of the Billboard 200:
— Alessia Cara, Know-It-All – No. 129 — Alessia Cara, who won the best new artist Grammy Award on Jan. 29, climbs back onto the chart with Know-It-All, at No. 129 – the set’s first appearance on the list since last September, and its highest rank since last June. The album earned 6,000 units in the week ending Feb. 1 (up 54 percent), and has sold a little more than 1,000 copies (up 208 percent). The album was last on the list dated Sept. 17, 2017 (at No. 150) and was last higher on June 17, 2017 (No. 125). The set debuted and peaked at No. 9 on the Dec. 5, 2015-dated list.
Overall, Cara’s catalog of songs sold 10,000 downloads in the week ending Feb. 1 (in the wake of the Grammy win) – a gain of 74 percent. Her songs collected 6.9 million on-demand audio streams (up 22 percent).
— Grateful Dead, Dave’s Picks, Volume 25: Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena, Binghamton – No. 27 — Grateful Dead’s successful archival series Dave’s Picks grants the band its first entry of 2018 on the list, at No. 27 (16,000 units, all from traditional album sales), with the 25th volume in the series: Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena, Binghamton. It’s the 36th top 40-charting effort for the band.
— Fall Out Boy, Mania – No. 30 — The album collects the biggest tumble from No. 1 since last October, when The Killers’ Wonderful Wonderful fell from No. 1 to No. 59 in its second week. Fall Out Boy’s Mania dips from No. 1 to No. 30 in its second week with 15,000 units (down 88 percent).
— Katy Perry, Witness – No. 79 — Katy Perry’s Witness jumps back onto the list at No. 79 with 8,000 units (up 239 percent), mostly driven by traditional album sales (6,000; up 1,056 percent). The set gets a big sales boost from a concert ticket/album redemption offer associated with the diva’s tour.
— The Avett Brothers, True Sadness – No. 126 — The band, led by brothers Seth Avett and Scott Avett, sees its True Sadness set re-enter at No. 126, following the Jan. 29 premiere of the HBO documentary about the band: May It Last: A Portrait of the Avett Brothers.
