BIGBANG Own Top Two Slots on World Digital Songs…Again!

BIGBANG's comeback gets even bigger as the K-pop phenoms rank high on several Billboard charts this week while tying a record of PSY's.

The summer of BIGBANG continues to get hotter as the K-pop phenoms rank high on several Billboard charts this week while tying a record of PSY‘s.

The band’s new singles “Bang Bang Bang” and “We Like 2 Party” occupy the top two positions on Billboard‘s World Digital Songs this week. “Bang Bang Bang” sets a best first-week singles sales record for the guys after moving almost 11,000 copies last week, according to Nielsen Music, and sits atop the ranking. “We Like 2 Party” follows behind at No. 2 with 7,000 copies sold.

For those keeping track, those figures outsell BIGBANG’s May singles “Loser” and “Bae Bae” which moved about 9,000 and 8,000 copies, respectively. BIGBANG will continue releasing new music on the first day of every month, but their latest tracks benefited by having a full week of sales (June 1 was a Monday) versus just three days like last month (May 1 fell on a Friday).

Other than BIGBANG, PSY is the only other K-pop act to hold the top two slots on World Digital Songs twice when “Gentleman” flew to No. 1 as “Gangnam Style” sat in the runner-up position in April 2013. “Gentleman” and “Gangnam Style” held the No. 1 and No. 2 spots for seven weeks until they flip-flopped on the chart dated June 15, 2013, and “Gangnam Style” led the tally with “Gentleman” in second place.

On other Billboard charts, “Bang Bang Bang” is the highest debut on the YouTube chart, soaring in at No. 13. The last K-pop act to bow there was EXO‘s “Call Me Baby” in April this year. BIGBANG last appeared on the tally when “Monster” bowed at No. 11 on the chart dated June 23, 2012.
