What happened on the Real-Time Charts this week?
Tinashe visits a ship yard in the new music video for her latest single, “All Hands on Deck,” much delight to Lena Dunham who tweeted her love for the singer’s dance moves.
“All Hands on Deck” lit up the internet when it was released Monday, April 6, causing it to hit the top of the Trending 140 for over an hour.
Other fresh faces on this week’s Trending 140 is Tame Impala, who broke into the top 10 with the mellow, first single “Cause I’m A Man,” the first single from the Australian group’s forthcoming album.
Even fresher is MS MR, who topped the Real-Time Emerging Artists chart with their new single “Painted,” which reached the No. 8 slot on the Trending 140. The duo, consisting of Max Hershenow and Lizzy Plapinger, hails from New York and is set to release their second album later this summer.
Two music videos exclusively premiered on Tidal, Jay Z’s new streaming service, caused their respective songs to top the chart this week. Rihanna’s “American Oxygen” topped the Trending 140 for close to two hours. Beyonce’s “Die With You” peaked at No. 2 and hit No. 1 after this episode was filmed.
Let’s close this week’s episode with more great news: the Billboard + Twitter Real-Time Charts have been nominated for a Webby Award! The Webby Awards are the “The Oscars of the Internet,” and we’ll need your help to win. Go here, log in using Twitter, Facebook or Google+ and vote for The Hollywood Reporter & Billboard.
The Trending 140 chart measures the acceleration of conversation around artists and their music, while the Emerging Artists chart measures the volume of tweets around new artists and their songs.
