Bandcamp has gone and developed a slick new app designed to make life easier for artists and their labels. In a blog post, the company explains that the free app “gives you a real-time mobile view into your stats, helps you manage and fulfill your merch, and lets you directly message your fans.”
Ethan Diamond, Bandcamp’s co-founder and CEO, posted a video tutorial of the app. A user will find sortable stats on plays and unique listeners, which can be filtered by time. Tapping on an album opens up more stats on specific songs, plus breaks down the number of complete plays versus partial listens versus skips. Sales-wise, the app makes it easy to find your total sales for each item as well as how people got to the product, like a Google search.
A key element of the app is giving artists an easy way to communicate with fans, and tools are in place to help make those messages as targeted as desired. Users of the free version of the app will be able to send messages to all their fans in any location who have spent any amount on their music, but Bandcamp Pro subscribers can target those fans by location or level of support. This feature could come in handy when an artist on tour and wants to only notify fans near that tour spot.
Diamond pays particular attention to the fact that these messages to fans will be sent to users both inside the Bandcamp fan app and via traditional email. “Now, fans can of course opt out of that and just get your messages in the app if they prefer, but the default here is that if you send a message, we’re going to do our best to make sure your fans actually get it.” The app also lets you send direct messages to fans.
Merchandise orders get their own section of the app as well, with tabs for unshaped and shipped order, plus the ability to update photos and other details for each merch item.
The Bandcamp App for Artists and Labels is available for Android and iOS.
