Bad Bunny Breaks Record for Most Weeks at No. 1 on Top Latin Albums Chart With ‘YHLQMDLG’

The 2020 set tops Gloria Estefan's 'Mi Tierra' for most weeks at No. 1 since the chart launched in 1993.

Bad Bunny takes his YHLQMDLG album to a milestone unseen in over 27 years on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart. It spends a record 59th week at No. 1 on the all-Latin genre-album chart ranking (dated Feb. 19), surpassing Gloria Estefan’s long-standing record for the most weeks at No. 1 in the nearly 29-year history of the chart. Previously, Estefan’s Mi Tierra had the most weeks at No. 1, with 58 weeks atop the list in 1993-94.

YHLQMDLG was released Feb. 29, 2020, via Rimas Entertainment. It earned 17,000 equivalent album units in the U.S., up 7%, in the week ending Feb. 10, according to MRC Data.

As YHLQMDLG surpasses Mi Tierra, here’s a look at the current leaderboard for the titles with the most weeks at No. 1 on Top Latin Albums. Notably, three of the top 10 sets belong to Bad Bunny:

Weeks at No. 1, Title, Artist, Years

  • 59, YHLQMDLG, Bad Bunny, 2020-22
  • 58, Mi Tierra, Gloria Estefan, 1993-94
  • 46, X 100PRE, Bad Bunny, 2019-20
  • 46, Odisea, Ozuna, 2017-18
  • 44, Dreaming Of You, Selena, 1995-97
  • 29, Segundo Romance, Luis Miguel, 1994-95
  • 27, El Ultimo Tour del Mundo, Bad Bunny, 2020-21

The Top Latin Albums chart changed its methodology years after Estefan’s Mi Tierra broke the record. Beginning with the survey dated Feb. 11, 2017, the list switched from a strictly sales-based formula to one calculating multi-metric methodology, to include traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). Thus, the steady streaming activity of YHLQMDLG’s songs have contributed to the set’s ranking each week with a total of 3.3 billion on-demand streams to date.

YHLQMDLG has also spun off a series of singles that have all found strong airplay reception. “Vete,” “La Dificil,” “Yo Perreo Sola,” and “La Santa” have all ruled the all-genre Latin Airplay chart for at least one week. (Radio airplay does not factor into the methodology of any of Billboard‘s album charts.)

YHLQMDLG debuted on the Top Latin Albums chart dated March 14, 2020, as the third of Bad Bunny’s six No. 1s on the survey, encompassing all his entries on the chart so far, dating to his first appearance on the ranking (with X 100PRE) on Jan. 5, 2019. He also far and away holds the record for the most cumulative weeks at No. 1 in the chart’s history: 142. Enrique Iglesias ranks second with 80 weeks on top, followed by Selena (77), Estefan (68) and Ozuna (66).
