Avicii, Lady Gaga Score Dance Chart Victories

Avicii's "Wake Me Up!" notches the DJ's first Billboard Hot 100 top 10 and rises on the dance charts as Lady Gaga tops Dance Streaming Songs.

While Avicii advances 3-2 on Dance/Electronic Songs with “Wake Me Up!,” the superstar DJ claims his first-ever top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 with the track (11-7). The folky EDM selection surges 7-3 on Hot Digital Songs with 175,000 downloads (up 27%), according to Nielsen SoundScan, marking its best sales week yet. That sum returns “Wake Me Up!” to the No. 1 spot on Dance/Electronic Digital Songs.

Furthermore, Avicii snares his first-ever No. 1 on Dance/Mix Show Airplay (3-1, up 23%), besting the No. 2 peak of “Levels” from February 2012, and holds at No. 1 for a second week on the normally fast-moving Dance Club Songs chart. Besides “Wake,” the only other track to spend multiple weeks atop the Club Songs chart this year has been Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky,” in June.

Speaking of Daft Punk, its next single, “Lose Yourself To Dance,” storms back onto Dance/Electronic Digital Songs at No. 36 (4,700 units, up 58%) and steps 19-18 on Dance/Electronic Songs. The act premiered the video on the final night of the sales-tracking week (expect further gains in the week to come) during the MTV Video Awards on Aug. 25. The elusive duo also made a rare appearance on the show, with Nile Rogers, to present the award for Best Female Video. Remixes from SMR, Nacho Penade and Simone were serviced to club DJs last week and a Dance Club Songs debut next week looks certain.

Beyonce enters Dance Club Songs at No. 45 with “Grown Woman,” a track first premiered by the artist as part of her Pepsi commercial earlier this year. The song, which is not available in any version via digital download, has been given the remix treatment by NERVO and Ralphi Rosario.

Lady Gaga gives fans some chart news to clap about as “Applause” moves 4-1 on Dance Streaming Songs. Vevo on YouTube views accounted for 77% of its 5.95 million streams. Gaga holds at No. 1 on Dance/Electronic Songs and grabs the Streaming Gainer trophy (up 106%). “Applause” is also the Hot Shot Debut on Dance Club Songs at No. 39, Gaga’s 15th chart entry (12 of which have hit No. 1).
