Avett Brothers Aiming for No. 2 on Billboard 200 Chart, With Drake Set to Hold at No. 1

Drake's "Views" is set for a ninth straight week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, while The Avett Brothers' new "True Sadness" could debut at No. 2.

Drake’s Views album is on course for a ninth consecutive week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, according to industry forecasters. Sources say that the album should far-and-away hold atop the list, with over 100,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending June 30, according to Nielsen Music. The Avett Brothers’ new True Sadness may debut in the No. 2 slot, with around 45,000 to 50,000 units.

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The new July 16-dated chart (where Views may spend a ninth week at No. 1) is scheduled to have its top 10 revealed on Sunday, July 3.

If Views spends a ninth straight week at No. 1 (its entire chart run), it would mark the longest consecutive rule atop the chart since Adele’s 21 spent 10 weeks in a row at No. 1 (of its total 24) between the Jan. 14 and March 17, 2012-dated charts.

As for the rest of next week’s top 10, watch for The Avett Brothers to claim their highest-charting album ever, with a possible No. 2 bow for True Sadness. Forecasters suggest it could launch with between 45,000 and 50,000 units. The act’s last album, Magpie and the Dandelion, bowed at No. 5 with 58,000 copies sold in its first week, according to Nielsen Music. (The group’s high-water mark on the chart came with 2012’s The Carpenter, which debuted and peaked at No. 4 with 98,000 sales start.)

Adele’s 25 should see a boost on the Billboard 200, following the album’s arrival on streaming services on June 24. Sources indicate that the album will return to the top 10 with perhaps a 10-30 percent overall unit gain (up to 32,000-38,000 units). A week ago, it ranked at No. 12 with 29,000 units.
