The lead single from the metal act’s seventh studio album, Voltaic Oceans (due Dec. 9), drew 1.9 million U.S. streams and sold 15,000 downloads in the week ending Oct. 20, according to Nielsen Music, the latter total good for the band’s fourth No. 1 on Hard Rock Digital Song Sales (3-1). (The track debuted on the Oct. 29 Hot Rock Songs chart with just one day of sales and streams and four days of radio airplay.)
“The Stage” is the quintet’s first Hot Rock Songs top 10 since “Buried Alive,” which peaked at No. 10 on the Dec. 31, 2011-dated chart. Until “The stage,” the band roses highest with 2013’s “Hail to the King” (No. 12).
The new single also catapults 30-15 on Mainstream Rock Songs as the chart’s Greatest Gainer, leaping by 130 percent in plays. It surges 49-40 on Rock Airplay with 1.5 million audience impressions in the week ending Oct. 23.
Voltaic Oceans is Avenged Sevenfold’s first full-length since 2013’s Hail to the King, which became the group’s second No. 1 on the Billboard 200, selling 159,000 copies in its first week and 643,000 to date. The forthcoming LP is the band’s first recorded with new drummer Brooks Wackerman (formerly of Bad Religion), who joined in 2015 after replacing Arin Ilejay, who now drums for Islander.
