Arty, "Couldn't Be Better"
Engels, Russia-based DJ/producer Arty — whose real name is Artem Stoliarov — debuts at No. 38 on Billboard's Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart (dated July 21) with "Couldn't Be Better." The artist's fourth chart entry, "Couldn't" follows his biggest yet, "Sunrise" (featuring April Bender), which rose to No. 4 in late May. "Couldn't" takes the entirety of its monitored radio play in the tracking week ending July 15 from three core-dance affiliates: Music Choice's Dance/EDM channel, iHeartRadio's Evolution network (as monitored on WFLZ-HD Tampa, Florida) and SiriusXM's BPM, according to Nielsen Music.
Arty tells Billboard, "'Couldn't Be Better' was inspired by everyone who's been through a tough relationship, struggling to overcome it, but finally finding happiness either on their own or with a new person in their life. This is definitely the most summer-ish song I've ever released. I really love this record and how the shape of the song helps to translate the story of defeating heartbreak in the best possible way. And, even though the lyrics are a bit melancholy, it's still a positive song that will lift people up and make them dance and feel good."
SG Lewis x Clairo, "Better"
London-based DJ/producer SG Lewis (real name Sam Lewis), teaming with Boston-based singer Clairo (aka Claire Cottrill), launches at No. 31 on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs with "Better." It's the best chart performance yet for both artists: Lewis' lone previous appearance was with "Warm," which hit No. 39 in August 2015, while "Better" is Clairo's inaugural appearance on any Billboard chart. "Better" solicited 822,000 U.S. streams and sold 1,000 downloads in the tracking week ending July 12.
Israeli singer Netta (full name Netta Barzilai) notches her first entry on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs with "Toy" (No. 46). The track, lyrically inspired by the #MeToo movement and the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest winner, earned 90,000 U.S. streams in the tracking week and has amassed over 84 million worldwide YouTube views since its release. Remixed by fellow Israelis Chen Lieba and Sagi Kariv, among others, "Toy" also ascends 19-16 on Dance Club Songs, where it also marks Netta's first appearance.
In late May, "Toy" turned up in the top 10 on a host of European charts, including Sweden Digital Song Sales (hitting No. 2), Spain Digital Song Sales (No. 3) and Greece Digital Song Sales (No. 6), to name a few. Netta is slated to perform the track stateside on the July 24 edition of NBC's The Today Show.
