As previously reported, Grande’s new single “7 Rings” soars in at No. 1 on the Hot 100 dated Feb. 2, arriving as the week’s most-streamed and top-selling song. It follows her first leader, “Thank U, Next,” which launched at No. 1 on Nov. 17 and ruled for seven weeks.
While Grande is the fifth artist with multiple No. 1 Hot 100 debuts in the chart’s 60-year history, joining Mariah Carey (the leader with three), Justin Bieber, Drake and Britney Spears (two each), no acts before Grande debuted at No. 1 with their first two Hot 100 leaders.
Bieber came within one spot of achieving the feat. “What Do You Mean?” bowed as his first Hot 100 No. 1 on Sept. 19, 2015, and follow-up “Sorry” started at No. 2 that Nov. 14, before reaching the top on Jan. 23, 2016.
After logging 34 Hot 100 entries beginning in 2013 and reaching a No. 2 high in 2014 with “Problem,” featuring Iggy Azalea, Grande has now reigned with two of her last three charted titles. Bieber had a similar trajectory, first leading with his 47th entry, ending a record wait (by total career-opening titles). He’s since upped his count to five Hot 100 No. 1s.
